Unidentif ied species have also been repor ted preying on root-knot nematodes (1). Macrocheles muscaedomesticae (Scopoli) and Lasioseius scapulatus Ven. have been reared, respectively, on a microbivorous nematode, RhabditeUa leptura (Cobb) Chitwood, and a mycophagus nematode, Aphelenchus avenae Bastian, (2,4). Colonies of a laelapid mite, Hypoaspis nr. aculeifer (Canestrini), have been found in greenhouse soil at Logan, Utah, in association with tomato (Lycopersicon esculen-

Susceptibility Assessments of Tomato Genotypes to Root Knot Nematodes, Meloidogyne javanica

Root-knot nematodes, Meloidogyne spp., are one of the important plant parasitic nematodes of tomato in the world. The most suitable control method of plant parasitic nematodes is the use of resistance sources and tolerant cultivars. In the earlier studies, the results showed thatonly 2% (19 out of 537 varieties) were resistant and tolerant to the root knot nematodes. In the supplementary studie...

Hatamabadi-Farahani M. 2019. Root knot disease of pomegranate. Plant Pathology Science 8(1):38-49. DOI:10.2982/PPS.8.1.38.    Pomegranate is an important fruit crop which is attacked by several pests and pathogens. Diseases caused by nematodes are of economic importance. The root knot nematodes (Meloidogyne spp.) causing considerable yield losses in pomegranate.  Root knot nematodes are seden...

Reaction of Different Pepper Cultivars to Two Species of Root- Knot Nematodes (M. Javanica and M. Incognita)

Root knot nematode is one of the important plant pathogens that causes damage to many crops, including greenhouse crops. Pepper is an agricultural crop which its cultivation has increased in recent years, especially in greenhouses. Most of the adopted management methods for this nematode have not met the required efficiency. In this study, reaction of some pepper cultivars (Elmina, Tuvana, Chal...

Wood ash application increases pH but does not harm the soil mesofauna.

Application of bioash from biofuel combustion to soil supports nutrient recycling, but may have unwanted and detrimental ecotoxicological side-effects, as the ash is a complex mixture of compounds that could affect soil invertebrates directly or through changes in their food or habitat conditions. To examine this, we performed laboratory toxicity studies of the effects of wood-ash added to an a...

Damage-associated responses of the host contribute to defence against cyst nematodes but not root-knot nematodes.

When nematodes invade and subsequently migrate within plant roots, they generate cell wall fragments (in the form of oligogalacturonides; OGs) that can act as damage-associated molecular patterns and activate host defence responses. However, the molecular mechanisms mediating damage responses in plant-nematode interactions remain unexplored. Here, we characterized the role of a group of cell wa...
